Introducing Alee

April 4, 2012

Alee is a nearly 2 year old Ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback. Wait… a Rhodesian Ridgeback WITHOUT a ridge? How is that possible you ask? I wondered the same thing, and it turns out the ridge is caused by a dominant gene, meaning a dog with the ridge can have either one or two copies of the gene. If a dog with only one copy of the gene (heterozygous) is bred to another heterozygous dog, there is a 25% chance that a puppy will be born without a ridge.

Like most ridgebacks, Alee makes a great running partner, and her parents have plans to gradually increase her distance and endurance to run a half marathon.
